3. The minutes of the Annual General Meeting
of 4th May 2004 were accepted.
4. Matters arising : It was
pointed out that Roger Keely had been reimbursed £15 for “tokens of appreciation” that he had purchased for both
Holmfirth Fire Brigade and Kate Keely [in appreciation for her hosting several
chess matches], and £10 as a token of appreciation for Holmfirth Fire Brigade.
Roger stated that he would again be thanking them for their hospitality, with
special thanks to Richard.
Posters had been produced by Geoff Peake and
distributed by Stewart Thompson around the area. However, there had been
contact from only only one person, and that had come to nothing.
The special handicap match that had been
proposed last season by Stewart Thompson had not taken place. Geoff Peake
pointed out that Stewart Thompson had been away for the three weeks at the end
of the season when the match was to have taken place.
It was proposed that Stewart Thompson should
organise a special handicap match at the end of the 2005-6 season when the top
four “Heroes” would play the top four “mortals” in the Club Tournament on a
Handicap basis.
£10 from funds had not yet been presented for
second place in the Club Tournament. It was decided that this should be given
to the second place player, Stewart Thompson.
It was noted that no new chess equipment
needed to be purchased.
5. Under Correspondence Roger alerted members
to the Huddersfield & District Chess Association AGM on 22nd June 2005.
He also supplied copies of the League Tables.
6. Secretary’s report.
{a} Venue and match night
It was decided to continue to use the Holme
Valley Fire Service Community room, and be on the lookout for more suitable
tables.
There was discussion about whether the match
night should be changed from Tuesday to Wednesday to accommodate Kevin Haigh’s
baby sitting arrangements! It was decided to keep to Tuesdays.
{b} Recruitment and publicity,
It was decided that Stewart Thompson would
contact Mr Adams and Mr Sharpe (Greenhead College and Holmfirth High School)
about possible recruitment of pupils for the Chess Club.
{c} Club Individual competition and other
matters.
It was agreed that the 2004-5 All Play All Handicap Tournament, won by
James Grist, had been a success. It was agreed that the Tournament for 2005-6
should follow the format - Winner of the Tournament to be decided by the player
with the greatest increase in grade - provided he had played all the players
still in the Tournament. Roger Keely thanked Geoff Peake for again organising
the Tournament and providing sponsorship of £25 prize money. The Tournament is
to take place on identified Club Nights (match free weeks) starting end August
2005.
On
completion of the Tournament, the top 4/5 players to play a special handicap
match against the leading 4/5 players in the Club, organised by Stewart Thompson, as stated above.
7. Team Captain’s report
Watkinson / Rapidplay
Roger reported that the team had a successful season, coming 2nd=
out of eight teams in the Watkinson.
In the Rapidplay the team had won the Competition !
The teams had almost always fielded a full team which Roger
felt was a very good sign.
8. Team Captain’s report
Handicap / Team KO
The Handicap team had a very disappointing season, coming 7th out of eight teams. Last season the Handicap team had come first. The Captain was continuing his policy of giving as many members as possible equal opportunity of playing in matches.
In the team KO the team were knocked out in the first round.
9. Treasurer’s Report
Geoff
Peake reported a balance of £101.36, though £10 would be deducted for second
prize in the Handicap Tournament.

during the season, £30 had been paid out in match fees and £25 to Roger Keely
as described above. {Note: it was resolved in 2003-4 season that members who do
not pay their subs by Christmas would not be considered for team matches after
that date}.
After some discussion it was decided that
chess subs be kept at £5 as no new equipment needed to be purchased.

grading lists of games played since August 2004.
